  • The Euskampus Bordeaux Eguna took place on 13 and 14 November at the UPV/EHU

The School of Engineering of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Bilbao hosted the current edition of the Euskampus Bordeaux Eguna. As in previous years, the UPV/EHU, the University of Bordeaux, the DIPC, and Tecnalia collaborated in the event.

BCAM (Basque Center of Applied Mathematics) was present on 14 November at this year's edition with the participation of David Pardo (BCAM - UPV/EHU Ikerbasque Research Professor) and Vincenzo Nava (BCAM researcher), who were in charge of presenting the inauguration of the JRL-A2I laboratory (Joint Research Lab on Applied Intelligence). Both work in the MATHDES (Mathematical Desing, Modelling, and Simulations) research line. They were assisted by Javier del Ser (Tecnalia and UPV/EHU).

Euskampus Bordeaux Eguna began on the 13th with its institutional opening. During the two days, attendees were able to enjoy workshops, activities, and participatory workshops in which they worked collectively to generate a shared vision of the challenges posed by the transitions within the framework of the Atlantic Axis, placing value on the Basque-Aquita coastline.

As in previous editions, this event featured both plenary sessions and co-creation workshops, as well as informal meetings between participants. The aim of this program was to foster multicultural, multilingual, and transdisciplinary social interaction. More than 200 people were able to interact in order to consolidate personal and professional relationships. In addition, this year 40 students (bachelor, master, doctorate) were given the opportunity to actively participate in the event.

The guided visit to the Euskalduna Palace, where the first act of the opera L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti was performed, and the visit to the Zorrozaurre neighborhood was also worth mentioning. The participants were able to observe Bilbao, a city in constant transformation, and, more specifically, Zorrozaurre, a neighborhood in which a major urban regeneration operation is being carried out.

In this edition, the activity "On board the Euskampus Bordeaux Campus" was carried out, which gave 15 people the opportunity to present the project or initiative they are developing within the framework of the collaborations between Euskampus entities. These people had 173 seconds (the distance between Bilbao and Bordeaux in nautical miles) to present their ideas. In addition, after focusing on this year's achievements of the six Cross-Border Cooperation Laboratories (CBC), a newly selected CBC was announced, and the new LTC Sarea was given visibility.

LTC Sarea is a structured and coordinated network of LTCs that constitutes a sustainable transnational community of researchers whose objectives are to foster international environments and maximize the impact of LTCs. BCAM is also part of this new network of laboratories. The Basque Center of Applied Mathematics is fully involved with the TRANSMATH laboratory, where it has a team of seven researchers, and which belongs to LTC Sarea. This laboratory is a Strategic Alliance between the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU) and the University of Bordeaux (UBx) that builds a shared ecosystem of higher education, research and innovation.
